Epithelioid myoepithelioma of the parotid gland: a case report with a brief literature overview

Abstract Background Parotid tumors are frequently encountered by otolaryngologists, and the vast majority of these pleomorphic variety. Myoepitheliomas represent a small subset parotid tumors. Due to their lack specificity, they can easily be mistaken an untrained eye for adenoma. However, recent advent immunohistochemical staining has aided in diagnosis. These show both benign malignant potential; therefore, careful evaluation subsequent appropriate management warranted. Case presentation Here, we present case young female patient who presented with lesion diagnosed as myoepithelioma dealt accordingly. She underwent superficial parotidectomy under general anesthesia. A 2 × cm firm nodular swelling was excised from left gland, facial nerve identified preserved. Conclusions The lesions is usually centered on surgeon’s experience opinion there have not been enough reported cases required formulation evidence-based guideline, hence more single-center studies essential management.
